Not my baby...It will be so perfect his poo won't stink. I don't know if my friend Heather from work was trying to imply something by getting these onesies for our future baby, but I wonder!?!?!
When the time comes, Allison and I are planning on sending out birth announcements heralding the arrival of the most beautiful baby ever birthed. However, I am a little concerned due to the trauma associated making its first appearance, the baby will look a little like an old prune or some other rotten fruit. Perhaps we will be lucky and the baby will be as cute as we were:
Allison around about her birth...(Allison wanted to make sure that everyone knew that she was 12 weeks premature)
I met one of my wife's High School friends tonight. Molly now lives in Delaware and was in town visiting family. She gave the baby a sweater that she made herself. She is a self professed yarn snob and tried to pick generic colors so that it would work for both a boy or a girl.
I can't believe I didn't think to post this previously...At the end of June we made our first major purchase in the name of the baby. Just a reminder...we are not due until the end of December!
My wife didn't think we needed to purchase it so early, but of course I thought there was no time like the present. We went to the store and bought the entire package: the camera, a carrying case, and an extra battery. We brought it home, took it out of the box, and then realized we had absolutely nothing to video! So my wife might have been right (don't tell her I said so). Don't you think the baby needs a Blu-Ray player?!
Another fun thing about having a pregnant wife is all the free stuff you get. I guess the stuff is actually for the baby, but it makes me feel like it is Christmas everyday!
Below are pictures of a few things "the baby" has received so far...
A spit-up towel that my mom gave us...
A baby wipe warmer (who knew you needed such a thing) that a friend gave us...
A high-chair promised to us by a friend...
A book that I received from a friend of mine at work...
Below is a "sketch" of the possible layout for the baby's room. I wanted to keep a full bed in the room for at least the first six months just in case the grandparents come to visit...hint..hint.
We made our second attempt at baby furniture shopping on July 19th. It wasn't as painful as I was expecting. My wife likes two brands of baby furniture. They are "Baby's Dream" (www.babysdream.com) and "Ragazzi" (www.ragazzi.com). The front runner so far is the "Pompei" line of the Ragazzi brand. Both my wife and I really like the crib. We are in debate on the color choice though.
I like this one the most because it actually looks like a crib and not some minimum security prison annex.
This is the dresser that goes with the crib.
I don't really want to discuss the price of these things. Who knew that baby furniture would require indentured servitude?!
This doesn't really have anything to do with our pregnancy, but we had to say goodbye to our dog today. Annie was my wife's pet that she has had for almost 16 years. We took her to the vet and my wife held the dog in her arms when the doctor gave Annie the shot that ended the poor dog's suffering. Within moments Annie no longer was gasping for breath or in any pain. It was definitely the right decision to make, but it was definitely a sad day around our house today.
This is a picture of Annie and my wife that I took this morning.
This is a picture of Annie and my wife when they were both a great deal younger.
July 1, 2008 was our 14 week mark...however...this picture was not taken on the 1st it was taken on July 2nd. We just completely forgot. I have therefore put reminders on my calendar to tell us when to take the picture. If we are going to document we might as well document correctly. :-)
A friend of mine at work documented her pregnancy by taking a picture in the same dress periodically throughout her pregnancy. I told my wife that was the one thing that I wanted to happen if and when she became pregnant.
The following is the first picture. We hope to take them every 4 weeks. This picture was taken on June 3, 2008.
Our first appointment with this pregnancy was on May 13, 2008. Since we miscarried very early with our first pregnancy, I was a little gun shy about getting too excited about the baby. However, hearing the heartbeat helped calm my fears a little. Every day brings us closer to “birthing the spawn” as I have been known to call it.
My future son or daughter will arrive on December 30, 2008. My wife and I are so excited. I hope to use this blog to post pictures, videos and basically document the next months as we prepare for our new arrival. Enjoy.
