One step closer...

We are one-step closer to having the porch finished. Allison, Caleb and I knew that we needed to finish priming the new front porch railings, so we put our plan in action. Allison and I took the first shift and let Caleb rest in his "pack-n-play".

Allison needed to spend some time at the library and I was tired of painting so I put Caleb to work.

Caleb did a good job except he kept trying to eat the primer. I blame his mother for teaching him to act like that!

There must be some type of sedatives in the primer, because Caleb fell fast asleep in my arms during one of his breaks.

I decided not to wake him up when it was time for him to get back to it…he looked too tired. I am the best dad / foreman ever!

I am such a good boss I let him have a snack when he woke up...

There are still a few boards that need to be replaced due to some warping but progress is still being made as evident in the pictures below.

Just another fish in the sea...

Caleb was happily playing the piano today and I just had to be funny and ruin it all. I didn't know that Caleb was afraid of sharks...Who knew!

Saturday with Daddy...

Allison went to work on Saturday and if you are a faithful reader of thrilling blog, you will know that when mommy goes to work, daddy is put to work! That’s right – I watched Caleb on Saturday all by myself.

The hours in which Allison abandoned us flew by. It was like time accelerated. The 48,600 seconds where I was alone with my son didn’t at all seem like an eternity. It was amazing that in 810 minutes a small human baby can completely and utterly destroy a grown man’s sense of worth and make a somewhat intelligent and devastatingly handsome man curl into the fetal position and wail for his wife to come to save him.

It might surprise you that in 13.5 hours a baby can do the following:
- demand to be fed 36 gallons of milk…6 times the average daily milk production of a machine milked dairy cow.
- produce an astounding amount of waste… Caleb’s diapers from Saturday should be completely decomposed in the year 2509.
- produce a sustained scream that measures 148 decibels…if he would have screamed only 2 decibels louder it would have been loud enough to rupture the human eardrum (look it up).

Considering all of the above, Caleb and I had a wonderful time. The morning went very well. We played and laughed. I fed him, he digested. I rocked him, he slept.

The afternoon was not so pleasant. I fed him, he spit up. I rocked him, he mocked me. I comforted him, he scorned me.

The last time Allison worked, it was horrible in the morning...This time it was horrible in the afternoon. The next time it will be perfect all day long.

Enjoy a few pictures from the weekend (not all of them were from Saturday). A few of them were taken with my phone, so the quality isn’t that great.

I’m not sure I’m going to make it…

I’m not sure I’m going to make it…

Today Allison is working her one shift for the month. We decided I would take off of work today and take care of our son all by myself.

HELP!

It has been the longest day of my entire life. I really do not see how Allison does this every day!?
Allison left for work at 6:20 this morning and our son was sleeping like a baby (a good baby). Around 7:00 Caleb decided he had enough of this sleeping thing and fussed enough to wake me up. It was a wonderful morning… for about an hour.

Caleb would not take a bottle and would not be consoled. I think he was protesting the entire situation. He has started doing this cry / scream / tantrum thing where he cries until he coughs and then screams until he chokes. It is a fun experience. Caleb eventually passed out on my lap and I took this opportunity to shove the bottle in his mouth and he sucked down its contents in what seemed like two giant slurps.

I have spent half the day walking loops in our tiny home trying to get the kid to settle down. I have also changed about 3,000 poopy diapers and 700 wet ones. Anytime that I can fool him into taking a bottle I work that in as well. I do realize that I am in essence refueling the diapers, but I think that is what you do with a baby.

Caleb did take a little nap in the swing and he eventually took a little nap on the couch. If not for the naps this blog entry and my continued sanity would not be possible.

Allison…please be home on time!!!
